Coining it in. Scripture, reflection and prayer.
Luke 21:1-4 "He looked up and saw rich people putting their gifts into the treasury; he also saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. He said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for all of them have contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.”
Reflection. How challenging is this picture? A poor woman giving a massive proportion of her 'wealth.' Scripture includes many passages about the correct use of money; about how all we have comes from God; about the rich and poor; about not relying on money as it can be transitory.
Here's the rub. How much attention do we pay to these passages? The simple (Yeah, right!) call in Scripture is to put God ahead of money. When we get that right will we get other monetary relationships right as well? At least there is a chance. My guess is that most of us have more than two coins to rub together.
Anyone else feeling challenged on this Monday morning?
Prayer. Help me, Lord Jesus. Amen.
