Another...Scripture, reflection and prayer.
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
Peter has been sent by God to the home of a Roman Centurion called Cornelius. This is the first time the Good News of Jesus is preached to non-Jews. The effect and response is powerful and immediate. (If you want to read Peter's sermon it is Acts 10:34-43). The Holy Spirit moved in power and lives are changed and the whole household are baptized.
Other things to note here. Peter had to both leave his comfort zone and go to meet people. Leaving his comfort zone meant engaging with a completely different culture. Indeed, a Roman Centurion was a powerful figure from an invading and occupying enemy. Jesus said that we should love our enemies and do good to those who would harm us. What better way to love someone than to share Jesus with them. This is Find One exemplified.
Prayer. Lord Jesus help us to have the courage and boldness of St Peter, we pray. Amen.
