Matthew 17:22-23 "When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.” And the disciples were filled with grief."
Reflection. Bad news Monday? How do we feel when we hear that someone we love is going to die? Jesus's disciples heard just that from Jesus himself. They were filled with grief. Other translations say they were greatly distressed. We can relate to their despair and sense of helplessness and hopelessness. Bad news Monday?
Bad news Monday? Yet, and here's the rub, we know the story of Jesus better than the disciples knew it at that moment. This is not a bad news Monday moment after all. We don't say, 'Bad Friday,' do we? And Good Friday was the actualisation of this prophecy.
Bad news Monday? Perhaps not, after all.
Prayer. Lord Jesus, even knowing of your painful, desperate death to come, you did not turn away. Thank you for the Cross. Amen.
