Psalms 86:14-17 NIV
Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God; ruthless people are trying to kill me— they have no regard for you. But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Turn to me and have mercy on me; show your strength in behalf of your servant; save me, because I serve you just as my mother did. Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
Our psalmist cries out to God for help. He is in deep trouble and fears for his life; ruthless people are arrogant and trying to kill him. The psalmist pleads for help. The psalmist reminds himself of the goodness of God. Read again and look at the way God and God's actions are described. It is an amazing description. Once he has praised God he calls for help. Do I work that way in my relationship with others, let alone with God.
Lord God, you are wonderful, marvellous, gracious, loving and merciful. Please give me another sign of your goodness. In Jesus's name. Amen.
