Bravery. Scripture, reflection and prayer.

Amos 1:1

"The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa—the vision he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel."


Reflection. I have headlined these thoughts with the word 'Bravery.' It could be called 'Jonny Foreigner.' Amos was from the Southern Kingdom, and was sent by God to the Northern Kingdom, to prophecy against them. By this stage, Israel was two kingdoms. Imagine yourself going to a foreign country and reading the riot act.  How brave and faithful is that! What an example! Then ask yourself how Amos' words would have been received....

One last thing. Don't you just love the detail about timing; 'two years before the earthquake.' Amos can be located in time and space. Scripture is amazing.

Prayer. Lord God Almighty, thank you for your servant Amos. May we share in his faithfulness. For Jesus's sake. Amen.
