“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:
“‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem, and may their God be with them. And in any locality where survivors may now be living, the people are to provide them with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with freewill offerings for the temple of God in Jerusalem.’”
Reflection. 2 Chronicles ended with the declaration that the exile was over, people could return to Jerusalem and that the Temple was to be rebuilt. Now we see the decree recorded in the prophecy of Ezra. And the freedom would be well supported and funded. Other locals were commanded to help fund the return!
There is something consistent of God in this; our God is the God of 'more,' of far more than we expect (Ephesians 3:20). Should we be more expectant when we come to go in prayer?
Prayer. Lord God help me to trust you more, I pray. In Jesus's name. Amen.
