Psalm 119:137-144
You are righteous, O Lord,
   and your judgements are right.
You have appointed your decrees in righteousness
   and in all faithfulness.
My zeal consumes me
   because my foes forget your words.
Your promise is well tried,
   and your servant loves it.
I am small and despised,
   yet I do not forget your precepts.
Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
   and your law is the truth.
Trouble and anguish have come upon me,
   but your commandments are my delight.
Your decrees are righteous for ever;
   give me understanding that I may live.

Reflection.  'I don't care what others think of You, Lord. I don't care what they say about me or do to me. I know You, Lord.' That seems to be where the psalmist finds himself. He knows the deeper reality of the justice, mercy and righteousness of God completely trumps everything else. Indeed, when people reject God, the psalmist is filled with greater zeal both to know more of God and that his understanding will deepen. Our psalmist has found that God's promises are true, God's commandments bring delight and that God is the life giver.

Prayer. Lord God, when things go wrong for me and when people speak ill of me, please help me to never lose my love for you. In Jesus's name. Amen.
