In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
Let's not get sidetracked into arguments about how old the earth is, or when the act of creation occurred.
Let's recall with awe that our God is a creator God.
Let's call to mind just how beautiful is the world in which we live.
Let's rejoice at the wonder of the natural world.
If you get a chance today to look at a flower today...
If you get a chance to stroke a cat or dog....
If you get a chance to stare at some countryside...
Lord God Almighty, Lord Jesus Christ, help us to rejoice in the world you have created and love. Help us to care for it. Amen.
