Lamentations 1:1-21How lonely lies Jerusalem, once so full of people!
Once honoured by the world, she is now like a widow;
The noblest of cities has fallen into slavery.
2All night long she cries; tears run down her cheeks.
Of all her former friends, not one is left to comfort her.
Her allies have betrayed her and all are now against her.
Reflection. Jerusalem has fallen. The great and the good have been carted off into exile. The city lies deserted. Jeremiah (tradition says he wrote this desolate poem) mourns.
What a picture of deep sadness he paints; crying, tears, friendless, alone and no one to bring comfort. It is gut wrenching! He pours out his heart. Honesty worn on his sleeve.
Are we so open and honest? Do we believe God hears and honours this outpouring?
Prayer. Lord God, help us to share our heart with you. In Jesus's name. Amen
