2 O Lord, how long shall I cry for help,
and you will not listen?
Or cry to you “Violence!”
and you will not save?
3 Why do you make me see wrongdoing
and look at trouble?
Destruction and violence are before me;
strife and contention arise.
4 So the law becomes slack,
and justice never prevails.
The wicked surround the righteous;
therefore judgment comes forth perverted.
Reflection. When we look at the state of the world, of our nation, of our community, of our church, are we driven to a cry of desperation? Do we sometimes wonder, 'where are you, O God?' If we do, then we are in good company. The prophet Habakkuk is desperate and feels abandoned. Who hasn't been there! Habakkuk sees destruction, strife, contention and lawlessness. Well, there is hope in the book. Have a read of chapter 2:14.
Prayer. May I never feel so desperate that I believe you have abandoned me. You are with me by the gift of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for Jesus. In His name. Amen.
