Psalm 3
1 LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! 2 Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” 3 But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. 4 I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain. 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me. 6 I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. 7 Arise, LORD! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. 8 From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.

Reflection. There is a hymn, 'Who is on the Lord's side.' Well, this psalm by David reminds us that the Lord is on our side. Even if people say that God has abandoned him, he knows that when he calls out to the Lord that he will be answered. He get sleep easily because God sustains him.

I don't think tens of thousands are ever against us and I won't be praying that God will smash their faces in; however, it is good to be reassured that God is for us and not against us. As St Paul writes in Romans 8, nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

Prayer. Lord Jesus, thank you for the assurance of our complete security in you. Thank you, Lord God, that you are for us and not against us. Amen.
