As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
Reflection. Perhaps there is an odd warning to us here. If we so choose, we can make the Bible say what we want it to say. Do we really think vegetarians are 'weak' people? Weaker than omnivores? Of course not! So, perhaps we should be careful when someone says to us, 'the Bible says.' Maybe a better test is to ask what the Bible means. Trying to let the Bible interrogate us is a risky thing to do.
Prayer. Lord Jesus, the Word made flesh, please guide me to a deeper understanding of the word of scripture. Amen
