"Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death--
even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father."
Reflection. There is a pattern here. It is a linguistic structure. It is chiastic: A, B, B, A.
Notice the work of Jesus:
Jesus emptied himself by becoming a slave; by becoming fully human; by obedience unto the Cross.
And then exaltation followed. The highest of exaltation. And the whole of creation will one day recognise his Lordship. God will be glorified.
The stunning idea at the start is that we should have the same mind as Jesus. We should lower ourselves. Are we prepared to give up all power and authority? Will we die to self? Will we let God lift us up? Will we give God all the glory?
Thanksgiving. Thank you Jesus. Thank you so much. Amen
