1 Thessalonians 1:8-10
For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia but in every place your faith in God has become known, so that we have no need to speak about it. For they report about us what kind of welcome we had among you and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
Reflection. St Paul speaks so very high of the church at Thessalonica. This passage tells us that this little local church has a fine reputation. Their life in Christ has become known well beyond the region. Other churches have reported back to St Paul the good news of the Thessalonians' faith. What a fantastic story.
Would we be able to say that our neighbours speak well of our church? Our neighbours, let alone the whole region, or wider. Or, what about we as individuals? Anyway, I am not intending to guilt trip anyone. Rather, let's recall again a little church in Asia Minor that shares Jesus and lives out their faith. Let's give thanks.
Thanksgiving. Lord Jesus, thank you for how you changed lives in Thessalonica. Thank you for how you have changed our lives. Amen.
