Famous flee-er. Scripture, reflection and prayer.

Jonah 1:1-3

1 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai, saying, “Go at once to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.” But Jonah set out to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid his fare and went on board, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.

Reflection. God calls Jonah. Jonah flees. That worked...or not! When God calls, God does not give up. God does not stop calling. Running from God is futile. God pursues us in love. OK, were we to try running from the presence of God, I don't think we would be swallowed up by a whale, but we would not be satisfied with our life. 

Prayer. Lord God, may I hear your call and respond positively. No running for me, Lord Jesus. Amen.
