Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
When was the last time any of us were persecuted for being righteous, or insulted because of our relationship with Jesus? The verses that follow these are about being salt and light; we ought to preserve, make a difference and be seen as Christians. If we were different to those around us, we would cause a reaction. I wonder if enough people know I am a Christian? Do folk, who don't believe, see a difference in my thinking and acting compared to their own. Given that no one has insulted me recently because of Jesus....
Lord Jesus, help me to stand up and stand out for you. Amen
