“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
We are blessed to have a small house in Brittany - we don't own a property in the UK. We decided to have it fully renovated and (Ruth) chose a builder carefully. He has great references and has proved to be brilliant. We had a real surprise when he discovered that the house had no real foundations! It was costly to put right, but absolutely necessary. Good and solid foundations for a building are rather important. Yet far more important than this are our Spiritual foundations. Jesus is the only foundation that will stand against the flood. When troubles come upon us, we will find that he is the rock of our salvation. We chose a builder carefully for what is ultimately a 'thing.' Ought we all choose carefully who ought to be the foundation of our lives, of our very souls? Ought we help others with choosing? Find One?
Lord Jesus, may we know the security of your being our foundation. Amen
