Great forgiveness. Scripture, reflection and prayer.
“I will heal their waywardness
and love them freely,
for my anger has turned away from them.
5 I will be like the dew to Israel;
he will blossom like a lily.
Like a cedar of Lebanon
he will send down his roots;
6 his young shoots will grow.
His splendour will be like an olive tree,
his fragrance like a cedar of Lebanon.
7 People will dwell again in his shade;
they will flourish like the grain,
they will blossom like the vine--
Israel’s fame will be like the wine of Lebanon."
Reflection. So great will be the breadth and depth of God's forgiveness that others will see it and benefit from it too. Once forgiveness comes it will marked by splendour, fragrance, shade giving, abundant food, blossom and fame!
This might look strange at first, but think for a moment about when we have been forgiven after we have done wrong. A weight is lifted from our shoulders. We seem to literally walk or stand differently. Do other notice a change in us?
Thanks be to God for forgiveness in Jesus!
Prayer. May we know the greatness of your forgiveness, O Lord our God! Amen.
