Guard the Good News. Scripture, reflection and prayer
1 Timothy 6:20-21
Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the profane chatter and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge; by professing it some have missed the mark as regards the faith. Grace be with you.
Reflection. John Stott wrote an accessible commentary about the letters to Timothy entitled "Guard the Gospel." It is good choice of title. Pretty well the last word St Paul writes to Timothy at the end of this letter are "Guard what has been entrusted to you." The Gospel had been entrusted to Timothy. Last words carry weight.
The same Good News of Jesus Christ has been entrusted to us as well. This news is unchanged. Jesus, the Word, came and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth. He lived our lives, died our death upon the Cross. He rose again and ascended into heaven. He died that we might live, and lives that we might never die. That is the Gospel for us to guard.
Prayer. Lord Jesus Christ please send your Holy Spirit to help us hold fast to your Good News. Amen.
