Psalms 119:9-16 NIV
How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, LORD; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.
You might have guessed that I am pretty obsessed with the Holy Bible. I love to see people reading it, I love to teach from it, I love to study it. Indeed, it is almost an idolatry for me. I have to be careful to ensure I do not love the word more than I love the Word made flesh! Yet, and it is a big, big 'yet, ' the psalmist is absolutely clear that having an understanding and love for Scripture is no bad thing. The Holy Spirit can take what we learn and embed it in our hearts. We can let the word guide our thoughts and our actions. May we recount, rejoice, meditate, consider and delight in the Holy Bible.
Lord Jesus, Word of God, help me to live according to your word and will. Amen.
