A song of ascents.1 I lift up my eyes to you,
to you who sit enthroned in heaven.
2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he shows us his mercy.
3 Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,
for we have endured no end of contempt.
4 We have endured no end
of ridicule from the arrogant,
of contempt from the proud.
I get sick and tired, and downhearted when people talk the church down. Especially when they are people in the church. I feel saddened when I hear folk say that science has disproved religion (made worse because my children are scientists and have trust and faith in Jesus). It hurts when folk speak with over-bearing pride and a sense of self-righteousness, and contempt at my Lord and God, Jesus. Do I turn to God for an intervention of mercy? Or do I just try to cope on my own and brazen my way through. What about you?
Oh Lord, come as the bringer of mercy. In Jesus's name. Amen.
