Acts 10:44-48 NIV
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
Reflection. Peter is at the house of the centurion, Cornelius. Peter has preached the Good News of Jesus to a non-Jew, to a Gentile. This was a radical shift. This was a step outside of his own culture. It is astonishing. And now the Holy Spirit has touched the hearers and they began praising God. Peter's companions were astounded. Peter understood. He knew that God was saying that anyone can get to know Jesus; anyone is welcome; all are welcome.
Peter has found one family. You know where this is going...can we Find One?!
Prayer. Lord Jesus, please send the Holy Spirit to help me include all and to exclude no-one. Amen.
