John 15:12-14 "“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you." NRSV
John 15:12-14 "This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends. You are my friends when you do the things I command you." MESSAGE
Reflection. In the UK, tomorrow is Remembrance Sunday. We will pause to think about those affected by wars past and present. We will honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Those who laid down their lives. Those who put their lives on the line for their friends.
In the Talmud, as famously quoted in Schlinder's List, it says, "One, who saves one life, saves the world entire." I invite you to Google Maximillian Kolbe and read of one sacrificial act. Kolbe stood in for another man during the Holocaust. In reading about him please reflect on and honour all those who died that we might live in peace.
They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old. For our tomorrow they gave their today.
Now, be pleased to think of the sacrifice Jesus made. The death of one to save the world entire. Greater love has no one than to lay down one's life for a saving purpose.
Prayer. We meditate in silence for 2 minutes.
