"The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” “Alas, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth."
Reflection. We stand alongside the great prophet Jeremiah when we respond to the call of God and say, in effect, 'Here I am, Lord, send someone else.' Or when we say, 'Lord, I can't do that. I'm not experienced enought.'
Jeremiah needed reminding that God is God. God knows us since before we are born. And, that God is the God who equips us. God, the Holy Spirit, makes us ready. As Jesus said, we will be given the words to say.
'You shall go to all to whom I send you and you speak whatever I command you.' Jeremiah was sent to nations. Can we be sent to Find One.
Prayer. Loving, forgiving God, thank you that you call us, trust us and equip us. Amen.
