Mark 2:21-22 "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”
Reflection. How good are we at letting go of the past or of recognising that there are times when we need to move on in life? Stepping forward in faith is part of growing as a disciple. So we prefer the security that the familiar offers; reluctant and fearful of letting go of older, ingrained habits. Whereas Jesus wants to bring in the new into our lives and communities and into our churches.
Prayer. Lord Jesus, send your Holy Spirit so that l will know what old things I need to hold onto and, more, what I need to let go of. Amen.
