Matthew 13:44-46 " “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it."
Reflection. Panic buying. With the petrol (gas for our American friends) shortage at the pumps comes panic buying and long queues and even fighting. It has not been a wonder to behold.
Jesus told these two short parables about some 'panic buying' that is worthwhile and eternally profitable. The Kingdom of God is so valuable that not only should panic buying occur to obtain a place in it, but panic selling of all we have as well.
Do we think the Kingdom of Heaven is that important? Now and then I need reminding.
I invite you to read the parable that follows (Matthew 13: 47-50). The Kingdom is compared to a net. This net catches the widest possible variety of fish. It also includes a word of judgement. What do we make of that.
Prayer. Lord Jesus, thank you that the Kingdom has great, overwhelming value. Amen.
