The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said, 2“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When anyone among you brings an offering to the Lord, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock.
“ ‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you are to offer a male without defect. You must present it at the entrance to the tent of meeting so that it will be acceptable to the Lord. You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you.
Reflection. I know we don't make 'sin offerings' any more. Jesus paid the price for our sins upon the Cross - once and for all. Yet there is still something in this passage for us today. It is the sense of bringing something without defect to God. It simply asks me the question whether I give of my best to God. Or, put the other way, does God get was is left over in my life; my time; my money; my possessions, or even my heart. This could lead to a guilt trip, but it need not. The call is to reminded of God's great love for us shown in Jesus, and then to respond in grateful love ourselves. We are not saved because of us or anything we offer, but because of Jesus.
Prayer. Lord God Almighty, Father, Son and Spirit, please help me to get my priorities right. Amen.
