1 Samuel 31:10-13
The Philistines placed his armour in the temple of the Ashtoreths, and they fastened his body to the wall of the city of Beth-shan. But when the people of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, All their mighty warriors traveled through the night to Beth-shan and took the bodies of Saul and his sons down from the wall. They brought them to Jabesh, where they burned the bodies. Then they took their bones and buried them beneath the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and they fasted for seven days
Reflection. Saul had been the first king of Israel, and he had not been that good, really. At the end he lost in battle to the Philistines. They desecrated his body. When some heard of this they took action. Their King was not for desecration. Saul received proper treatment in the end owing to bold action; bold action that was risky.
I find myself asking what would drive me to bold and risky action for the good of others. How would I work out if any 'rebellion' was God driven or just my being angry...
Prayer. Lord Jesus, send the Holy Spirit to guide me and prompt me to act. Amen.
