"When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes,LORD, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them."
Reflection. How wonderful a witness it would be of our churches that those in the communities around us said, "God is doing great things in that church." That is part of the story of the psalm. The surrounding nations saw that God was doing great things in Israel. And the people were able to reply by acknowledging that God was at work among them. Israel was full of joy and delight and they could not stop laughing. Goodness, water was flowing in the desert! That's a reason for rejoicing. What causes you and me to rejoice so uncontrollably?
Thanksgiving. Lord God, I rejoice in your name and love because of Jesus. Amen.
