Matthew 10:40-42 NIV
“Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
We often say that the Bible does not talk about rewards. Well, it does. Indeed, here we have Jesus speaking of rewards. It is unclear what these rewards are. I offer a suggestion. When we read the parable of The Talents (Matthew 25:14-30) the reward is about more responsibilities and being closer to the Land Owner. Heavenly rewards are not about bigger mansions. The biggest reward, though, is surely to be known as one of Jesus's own. To be safe and secure in him.
May I be own who knows the blesséd reward of belonging to Jesus. Amen.
