In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the exiles by the River Chebar, the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. On the fifth day of the month (it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin), the word of the Lord came to the priest Ezekiel son of Buzi in the land of the Chaldeans by the River Chebar, and the hand of the Lord was on him there.
Reflection. People used to say that they could remember where they were when JFK was shot. I wonder if people will remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard that Queen Elizabeth II had died (I had the TV on as I had heard that members of the Royal Family had rushed to Balmoral Castle).
Ezekiel can remember with great detail the very day that he had a mind-blowing vision and that the LORD's hand was upon him. (The vision is in the remainder of the chapter). How many of us can remember those great Spiritual moments in our own life? Do we call to mind those moments when we felt God's hand on us? How many of recognise that God always has his hand on our life, always has us on his heart, always covers us in love.
Prayer. Lord God, may we always know that you are with us. Indeed, we give thanks for the Lord Jesus, Emmanuel. Amen.
