In my thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God. On the fifth of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin— the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, by the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians. There the hand of the Lord was on him.
Don't you just love it when the Bible gets really specific about times and places. It makes it appear all the more real. Did you notice that Ezekiel was 34 years, 4 months and 5 days old when he had a vision of God. It was the fifth year of exile. We know Ezekiel's dad's name. We know exactly where Ezekiel was. We know what his job was. And, we know the hand of the LORD was on him. Why is it that such specificity makes me trust Scripture?
Lord Jesus, thank you for 'details!' Amen.
