Tyrants fall. Scripture, reflection and prayer.

Wisdom of Solomon 17:1-5
1Great are thy judgments and hard to describe;therefore uninstructed souls have gone astray.
2For when lawless men supposed that they held the holy nation in their power,
they themselves lay as captives of darkness and prisoners of long night,
shut in under their roofs, exiles from eternal providence.

3For thinking that in their secret sins they were unobserved
behind a dark curtain of forgetfulness,
they were scattered, terribly alarmed,
and appalled by spectres.

4. For not even the inner chamber that held them protected them from fear,
but terrifying sounds rang out around them,
and dismal phantoms with gloomy faces appeared.

Reflection. Spoiler - get ready for a surprise.

Mahatma Ghandi reportedly said  although tyrants appear all powerful, that they all fall. I am wondering how things feel now for those in power in Russia. Things are not going well for a tyrant's army that has faced determined people defending their homes and families. I wonder what spectres are appearing for those who were over-confident. They are hiding behind shackled media and resorting to mass arrests of protesters.  What thoughts take place in inner chambers, and how many gloomy faces have appeared.

Why do I offer these thoughts? How are we feeling about Putin and his cohort? What do we pray for them? No one is beyond the love of God. Even me. Even you. Even Putin.

Prayer. Loving, all powerful and gracious God, we pray for President Vladimir Putin. May he turn both to you and order his armed forces to withdraw from the Ukraine. May his troubled soul find the peace only you can give. In Jesus's name. Amen.
