John 7:37-39 "On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified."
Reflection. I live in where I describe as the monsoon capital of Britain. When it rains in Plymouth, it really rains! In the passage, Jesus speaks about a profligate and overflowing amount of water. Remember that he is speaking to a desert people. Water was a precious, precious commodity. Thirst was a regular occurrence for folk. So, imagine the wonder of even thinking of having so much water that it was like a never ending spring. Water was and is life. Jesus says come to him and you will live. Your life will not be marked.by aching thirst and wondering where the next sip will come from.
If you are thirsting for new life, then come to Jesus and drink deeply. If you already know Jesus and believe in him come and be refreshed again and again. In the desert of life, let Jesus pour the water. Let the living water of Jesus flow like a river from your believing heart.
Prayer. Refreshing water of life. Water giving Jesus, we worship you. May we drink deeply of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
