​Why bother? Scripture, reflection and prayer.

Ecclesiastical 1:1-5

1 The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem:
2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”
3 What do people gain from all their labours at which they toil under the sun?
4 Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever.
5 The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises.


Reflection. Another of those passages that does not bring us joy. So, what can we say about it that might help us today. How about this: it is good that Scripture includes things that reflect,  so clearly, a sense of reality and similarity with how we can feel. Scripture does not shy away from problematic life issue. The 'Teacher' seems to be depressed and pours it all out. That opens the door for our being completely honest with God. Sometimes only a rant will do!

Prayer. Lord God, thank you for hearing our pains. Thank you for meeting our pains in Jesus. We pray in His name. Amen.
