Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Let’s be open and honest here, any thought of 'consider (ing) it pure joy' when facing trials, is a tough idea. Yet, I have found that a time of praise, when feeling low, really does change my mindset. St James does offer a reason; namely, 'because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.'
St James reminds us to ask for wisdom. Maybe the best words come next - 'ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault.' Dwell on the generosity of God for a moment or two or three. Rejoice in this wonderous thought.
Prayer. Lord God Almighty, we ask for wisdom. In Jesus's name. Amen.
