Performing Arts Mission Enabler (PAME) with Anne Middleton
Performing Arts Mission is a new initiative of the Plymouth and Devonport Methodist Circuit, bringing churches together for creative mission and community. In January 2020, Anne Middleton was employed as the Performing Arts Mission Enabler(PAME) to launch this pioneer ministry. Anne created the PAM logo – a spotlight on the cross – because she is passionate about the power of theatre and the arts to touch the soul and transform lives, with the message of the hope we have in Jesus.

Anne’s background is theatre and therapy – she has a degree in Drama and English and an MA in Dramatherapy. Anne began working as a professional actress in a Christian context over thirty years ago. She performed at many Christian events, including Easter People, and worked as part of the team at the Lantern Arts Centre for many years. Anne has also worked for several theatre companies and has performed in hundreds of schools doing Theatre in Education. As well as creating her own material, Anne loves to collaborate with and support other creatives in their ministries.

The plans for ‘live’ theatre and creative projects have obviously changed due to the current situation, but there are several large productions in the pipeline as well as the launch of Hope Theatre Café (HTC) – a professional venue for Christian performers – when we are able to get up and running again.

Find One by Anne Middleton (Performing Arts Mission)
Anne Middleton wrote a series of haikus to encapsulate the essence of Plymouth and Devonport Methodist Circuit’s vision: Find One. The movement was devised in workshops with members of the PAM drama team.
This video is taken from the first performance, at the launch of Find One at the Circuit Service, on 4th September 2022 at Ivybridge Methodist Church.

Easter at Cornerstone
Anne Middleton (Performing Arts Mission Enabler) recently worked with this fabulous team at Cornerstone Church, Torpoint, to teach Yr 4 children about Easter.
She has also been in schools every day for the past two weeks and again next week, sharing her Easter Story, Piggy and Woof Follow the Clues, to Reception, Yr 1 & Yr 2 children. Although she usually works alone, it was so wonderful to work with these lovely ladies...

Performing Arts Mission presents Peters Pledge
Performing Arts Mission presents Peter’s Pledge, passionately performed by Rev. Darren Middleton, from our Easter act of worship, Come and See… This is an original song premiere and is the first collaboration between Anne Middleton and Rob Young, MD of Plymouth Military Wives Choir, of which Anne is a member. Peter’s Pledge depicts the turning point for the disciple, as he realises his mistakes and decides to commit the rest of his life to living for Jesus. Filmed at the stunning historic site of the old castle in Plympton, the drama of the setting, along with the emotive music, adds to the passion of Peter’s Pledge. This video is available as a free resource thanks to the Plymouth and Devonport Methodist Circuit. However, the material is copyrighted, so please do not change the video in any way. Because of you… An Act of Remembrance (Performing Arts Mission)
Anne Middleton, created a video resource for Remembrance 2020, when most services were unable to go ahead. The video features Anne’s poem, ‘Because of you…’, written for the Royal British Legion’s 2018 ‘Thank You’ theme, with her husband, Rev. Darren Middleton, singing ‘You raise me up’. The poem and song are set as part of an ‘Act of Remembrance,’ which includes bugles sounding The Last Post and Reveille. Please contact the page if you would like a link to download the video for use in a service.

Hope and Green Shoots by Anne Middleton (Performing Arts Mission)
This video was created by Anne Middleton with Bridget Down – inspired by signs of hope shared by Lay Workers in the Plymouth and Exeter Methodist District. Bridget encouraged Lay Workers in the District to share their reflections on signs of ‘hope and green shoots’ as seen in their churches and communities. Anne then created a series of Haikus to bring together the themes and the result was a video that was shared at the District Synod. Thank you to Angela Smith, for the inspiring artwork, and Simeon Wood, for permission to use his beautiful piece of music, appropriately called, ‘Hope’.
