Out of the ashes of Oreston Methodist Church, the Plymouth and Devonport Methodist Circuit are looking to create the Oreston Centre – a community hub with Chapel Tea Rooms and a high spec beautiful large space, fully kitted out for theatre and the arts.
Our Property and Facilities Officer, Sharon-Lee Beattie is project managing this new venture – her vision is to repurpose our church building to create a thriving community hub. She is working closely with the community and councillors to provide a needed resource for the area. This will hopefully be the first of other potential transformations to respond to the current needs of the Methodist Church.
The Performing Arts Mission Enabler, Anne Middleton, is working with Sharon to create a dynamic space to engage the community and circuit in a new expression of faith with an emphasis on theatre and the arts. The OC will be home to Hope Theatre Café and a space for art exhibitions and creative workshops exploring spirituality and sharing a message of hope.
Work (and fund-raising) is in progress and the hope is to be up and running by March 2022. Watch this space to follow the story…
