The sold out Passion Play during Holy Week was a very powerful play. Cast member, Mark Thompson, tells us of his thoughts on being involved.
PLAYING PETER IN THE PASSION PLAY
The Passion has affected me in a positive way, but also in a very sad way.
I actually felt I was there at the Crucifixion scene, but knowing that Jesus died for our sins is something that will always be with me. His Resurrection is our salvation.
There are critical life lessons from the Way of the Cross that we can carry forward into our own lives.
Courage I learned the courage and fortitude Jesus showed on His way to the cross. Being wronged may not necessarily be a part of everyday life, but when it does happen, learning the strength with which Jesus faced his trials is a lesson to be learnt.
Willingness to surrender God’s divine plan has a logic that may not be apparent in our time. But by accepting God’s will in time of adversity we make ourselves stronger to lead life in more exemplary ways.
The habit of prayer Indulging in everyday prayer keeps us morally honest, mentally sincere and psychologically healthy. Praying as part of a community does wonders in helping you sort and prioritise difficulties in life.
Patience Jesus was innocent and the trials unjust, yet he chose to suffer and accept death. His quiet fortitude and tenacity is borne out by his successfully creating an example for us to follow.
Forgiveness Knowing how to forgive those who have wronged us is one of the hardest lessons in life. Jesus showed us exactly how this can be done.
Perseverance Jesus had people conspire against him. We should remain consistent and persist in our moral principles, no matter how lonely it gets.
Prayer The Passion has taught me how Jesus used the power of prayer when things became too tough to endure.
Emerging from redemption There are times when I feel so dejected by the wrongs I may have committed in the past that I fail to see how I can make amends in the future. Every minor act matters as Jesus showed when he chose to forgive the criminal Barabbas through his small act of kindness by the cross.
Looking for hope Even when the whole world seems against me, persisting with habits of kindness, justness and compassion helps me hold onto my Christianity.
